Working for Alternative Care opens up a range of opportunities to establish or progress a career in health and social care.

We provide a thorough two-week training system, for those who are new to the care industry, to get you on your feet before you go to work in the field. Those with experience will receive their mandatory outstanding qualifications only. During your ‘Induction’ you will receive an ‘Induction Booklet’ and the following qualification certificates, to keep:

Alongside these you will have the opportunity to spend time with service users and staff for a half-day observation after your interview. You will be fully trained in-house using both classroom and on the field scenarios. When issued with your first rota you will have access to qualified officers accompanying you to deliver hands-on training. After your induction you will gain experience quickly by working in all areas of the company, from the beginning, due to our peripatetic contract. For the first three months of employment you will be working in a probation period. All employees receive an employee’s handbook to keep for reference and we recommend you read this literature.

You may specialise in one-to-one support roles where you might be responsible for helping and changing a person’s quality and or diversity of life. This can be especially rewarding personally but also give an insight and thus a better understanding of specific mental health issues in the community. Ongoing professional and personal development is encouraged and supported by supervisions and all jobs are offered internally before advertisement, if you were considering working your way up. Promotion is always fair and based on merit and personal advancement.

Extra certificates can be gained depending on your role in the organisation and if you were to require more training due to person specific care then this can be arranged. Other qualifications that we offer in house include:

It can also be a wonderful second career for retirees, particularly those from a teaching background or from the police, fire service or NHS, or simply looking for a meaningful change of direction. Many people have already acquired skills relevant to working with the general public; however, through our organisation you can obtain these abilities through training and practice where you will put them to good use.

Some job roles with our organisation require a full driving licence and all applicants should expect an enhanced CRB check. This is a legal requirement due to the sensitive nature of this industry and the protection of the people in our care.

Diploma Awards

NVQ qualifications are now being placed under the educational umbrella of ‘Diploma Awards’ and at Alternative Care we offer this course up to Level 3, for those working below management. Due to new government funding this course is now only available to employees under the age of 25 years. Any age can complete a Level 2 with full funding, however, those who wish to gain Level 3, over the age of 25, must apply for a government Advanced Learning Loan. These offers are only available after a 3 month probation period.
